Proper aftercare is crucial to ensure optimal healing and long-lasting results. Following your technician’s instructions is 50% of great healing, and your routine at home plays a significant role in the final outcome.

Aftercare for Permanent Makeup

Immediate Aftercare (First 7-10 Days)

  • Keep the treated area clean and dry; avoid touching, scratching, or rubbing.

  • Avoid water, sweat, and steam for the first week. No swimming, saunas, or hot showers.

  • Apply the recommended healing ointment as instructed by your technician.

  • Avoid makeup and skincare products on the treated area during healing.

  • Do not pick or peel any scabs; let them fall off naturally.

  • Sleep on a clean pillowcase and avoid pressing your face against surfaces.

Long-Term Maintenance for Permanent Makeup

Over time, PMU on brows, lips, or eyes will gradually lighten. To prolong the results and maintain their vibrancy, follow these essential care tips:

  • Avoid exfoliation: Refrain from using harsh exfoliants, chemical peels, or skincare products containing retinol and acids on the treated area, as they can accelerate pigment fading.

  • Use sunscreen daily: Exposure to UV rays can significantly fade PMU pigments. Always apply a broad-spectrum sunscreen with SPF 30 or higher on the treated area when outdoors.

  • Stay hydrated and moisturized: Keeping the skin hydrated helps maintain the color intensity. Use a gentle, hydrating moisturizer that is free from harsh chemicals or active ingredients.

  • Avoid laser treatments near the PMU area: Certain laser treatments, such as hair removal or skin resurfacing, can cause pigment to fade or change color. Inform your technician if you have PMU before undergoing any laser treatments.

  • Be mindful of skincare treatments: Anti-aging treatments, microdermabrasion, and certain facials can accelerate fading if performed directly over the PMU area. Always inform your esthetician about your PMU before any facial procedure.

  • Limit sun exposure and tanning beds: Excessive sun exposure and tanning beds can cause premature fading and color distortion. Always wear sunglasses and a hat for added protection.

  • Schedule touch-ups as needed: Depending on your skin type and lifestyle, you may need a color boost every 12-24 months to keep your permanent makeup looking fresh and defined.

  • Avoid smoking and excessive alcohol consumption: Both can negatively impact skin health and pigment retention, leading to quicker fading of PMU.

  • Practice a healthy skincare routine: Keeping the surrounding skin healthy and nourished will contribute to the longevity of your permanent makeup. Use gentle cleansers and avoid excessive scrubbing of the treated area.

Following these guidelines will help you achieve the best, most long-lasting results from your permanent makeup.
